Rock Climbing...

As most of you know I have been substituting this year. Today, I had the honor of teaching in first grade. The teacher had a family emergency and it just happened to be the big first grade field trip. Yes, I got to be the Sub on the field trip. We went to a Boy Scout camp and had a terrific time. The kids were great, the staff terrific, and the cobbler was the best I've tasted! The camp had a rock climbing wall the kids were able to use during the day. Each child had the opportunity to climb the wall. If you made it to the top, you rang the bell and then the camp gave you a merit badge to say you were successful at rock climbing at camp. Only a few first graders were successful at this adventure. The fun part came when the teachers were asked to climb the wall. Thinking I was exempt because I was a Sub was a mistake on my part. I was harnessed up, and told to climb the wall. With 22 kids cheering you on how could you fail? Well...(no comments from the peanut gallery) I was the only teacher that was successful at climbing to the top of the wall and was proud to ring the bell. Here is my badge and my class thought I was the coolest teacher ever. I guess it pays to have the strength of first grade cheers to get you through the hard times!

That is awesome! I love that you made it to the top. I've done a little rock climbing at the gym and it is hard work.
