The Joy of Family

When Santa comes to our home he wraps the door or entry way that opens into the room the tree and presents are in so the kids cannot see what he left them. This is great because the kids cannot peek during the night and spoil any surprises that Santa has given them. This year there is only a doorway that leads from the bedroom into the living room. Santa wrapped the door and left the kids and dog behind it to wonder what presents were under the tree. Unfortunately, Rich was not home, and would not come home until noon on Christmas day. We decided to wait for him, which meant the kids were stuck behind the wrapping paper until noon. The kids and dog stayed in the gameroom and played Wii, ate, read books, and just had a good time. When Rich finally came home the dog was so excited he came barreling down the hallway and burst right through the wrapping paper! You can see his nose peeking out from behind the couch. We all laughed and laughed. We had the girls stay behind for a few more minutes so Rich could hide the pickle on the tree (one of his favorite things every year) and then we let the girls loose. Rich had been on a five day trip and was still in uniform. He did not even change his clothes. He had flown all night and was dead tired, but so glad to be home!
It was so much fun to have the whole family together and was worth the wait. The girls enjoyed their new video IPODS and ITUNES gift cards. Katie loved her Ihome and wax kit. I think everyone was happy (except Megan) who was dissapointed Santa did not bring her a blackberry and a laptop!!! Some day Megan, just not this year. :) We will enjoy Rich until Saturday when he takes off to fly another trip. We hope everyone had a great Christmas and was able to enjoy their family and friends. May God bless each of you always!

Great tradition. I'm glad Rich got to be home for part of Christmas!
